No looking back

Before choosing Fletcher, I had already completed an MBA and had gained around six years of work experience. As a result, I wanted to be careful with my decision to attend graduate school, and did extensive research about Fletcher and the other schools I was considering. My decision to join Fletcher was a function of many factors, including reaching out to current students and alumni. Aspects of the Fletcher education such as the multi-disciplinary approach, brand equity of Fletcher globally, focus on learning over just grades, the flexibility to choose your curriculum, the small class sizes, the diversity of the student body (what makes Fletcher truly a global school), the strong alumni network, and the opportunity to work with renowned professors were of great importance to me. I was pleasantly surprised to receive e-mail responses to my queries from Fletcher alumni. Their candid feedback helped me find answers to all my questions. I also consulted the management in my company and the answer was unequivocally the Fletcher school. Now, I am living my Fletcher dream. I am excited to work with the foremost minds in the field, among both my fellow students and professors. One could be a Fletcher student just to witness the exceptional support offered by the Fletcher mafia. It was a special feeling for me when, on my first day at Fletcher, I stood in the famous Hall of Flags and told myself “wow, I have made it to the world’s most renowned school of international affairs, and now, there is no looking back!”

On the flavor of Fletcher

Fletcher is one of very few schools allowing an option to completely design your own curriculum. This was a critical factor for me in choosing Fletcher over other schools. At Fletcher, I have the freedom to choose the courses that I want to take. The importance of this freedom cannot be overemphasized given the diversity of interests within the student body. For example, I am creating my own Field of Study in Innovative Social Finance and Impact Investing to pursue my goals in tech, investment, and social impact. The Fletcher professors have offered invaluable support guiding me to create a curricular plan in my self-designed field. In addition to exploring the depth and breadth of one’s fields of specialization, one can also opt for unrelated courses to expand your horizons.

Understanding in any situation

I am fascinated by the intellectual diversity among my classmates. Everyone I have met is from a diverse background and aspires to work on different global issues. Fletcher, to me, is truly a global school. The diversity helps build an understanding of situations from alternate perspectives, which is useful when working on issues related to international development. Among other advantages, it helps me learn about new cultures, politics, cuisines, and amazing places to explore.
