Connecting theory with practice
As a journalist I have travelled to many parts of the world reporting stories on issues like poverty, climate change, and human-wildlife conflicts. Through my reporting, I believe I have had an impact in the understanding, tolerance and action of those who see these stories. Now I want to change my perspective from describing global issues to working with them directly. I choose Fletcher because here I can build on the career, skills, and knowledge I already have with new skills and tools I can gain through the diverse curriculum. The way Fletcher is connecting theory, intellect, and perspective with skill-based practice in the courses is great. We learn by reading, discussing with peers and professors, and connecting theory to practice in writing. I find courses with a focus on skills really interesting, for example “Development Aid in Policy and Practice” and “Design and Monitoring of Peacebuilding and Development Programming”.
On tailoring your education
The flexibility of the curriculum allows me to design my education ranging widely from discussions about human security to how to be a effective leader managing teams to how read financial statements. I can tailor an education matching my ambitions and dreams for a future career.
On campus life
Campus life is extraordinary! It is a great privilege to be part of this diverse and multicultural institution - and every day I am blown away over how nice everyone is. Even though we are all under a lot of stress and pressure there is always room to lend others a helping hand or ask how things are going. I feel like we are all in this together.
