The Fletcher School will host its 21st annual London Symposium in the British capital on January 20th, 2024. This year’s edition, titled “When Global Finance Meets Politics and Greed,” gathers experts for a panel discussion on sovereign wealth funds and their dynamic role in global affairs, including two special guests.

Clare Rewcastle Brown is an investigative journalist. After working as a television reporter for the BBC, Sky News, and ITV, Brown founded the Sarawak Report, a website set up to challenge the corruption driving deforestation in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Her investigations culminated in the exposure of the 1MDB scandal, described by the United States Department of Justice as the largest ever recorded kleptocracy case. Brown received the UNDOC Anti-Corruption Excellence award in recognition of this exposure. She is featured in Man on the Run, a documentary film about the case, which was released on Netflix on January 5th.

Andrew Rozanov is an independent director on the board of Agaciro Development Fund, Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund. He is credited for having introduced the term “sovereign wealth funds” in an article in Central Banking Journal in 2005. Across his decades in the industry, Rozanov has held positions at Chatham House, Permal Group, State Street Corporation, UBS Investment Bank, and the National Bank of Kazakhstan, where he served as chairman of the board of Kazakhstan’s National Investment Corporation. He is the editor of two books on investing, Global Macro and Tail Risk Hedging.

Joining the guests on the panel will be Professor Patrick Schena, F00, who co-heads SovereigNet at The Fletcher School. SovereigNet is an interdisciplinary network dedicated to the study of sovereign wealth management and its impact on global capital markets.

The panel will be moderated by Bhaskar Chakravorti, Fletcher’s Dean of Global Business. Dean ad interim Kelly Sims Gallagher, F00, FG03, will provide opening remarks.

The event will be held from 10:00am to 12:15pm at K&L Gates LLP in Central London, overlooking St. Paul’s Cathedral. More information can be found on the registration page.
