During the 2023-24 academic year, The Fletcher School will celebrate its ninetieth anniversary with the theme Forging our Future–Together. The Fletcher community will come together, in person and online, to recognize the school’s global impact thus far as a world-class educational institution, professional school, and destination for counsel and expertise serving the world’s most consequential decisionmakers. The anniversary will also afford the opportunity to envision the new ways Fletcher will shape the world in the decade ahead leading to its centennial anniversary.

The celebrations taking place on campus and around the world will begin with Convocation in September 2023 and conclude the following May at 2024 Commencement. October 27th will mark Fletcher Day––24 hours of celebrations around the world that follow the sun. Throughout the celebration, the school will fortify its documented history by collecting stories and interviews from alumni across graduation years, degree programs, fields of study, and professional paths. This effort will include an oral history project directed out of the Edward R. Murrow Center for Global Diplomacy designed to capture 90 years of diplomacy at Fletcher.

After 90 years, Fletcher continues to shape global affairs, through the research, scholarship and expertise of our faculty and students and the impact and achievements of our graduates,” said Rachel Kyte F02, dean of the Fletcher School and an alumna. “Fletcher was America’s first graduate only school for international relations, pioneering the multidisciplinary approach now copied by so many peers, and it has remained an innovator in an ever-evolving world. We are proud of our agility, adapting our approach to teaching and research to meet the new technologies, economies, and threats that our graduates will face.”

This agility has been a hallmark of the school’s programs and ethos. For nine decades, Fletcher has pushed the boundaries of the teaching and practice of global affairs. It has built upon the legacy earned since the birth of the school with the introduction of a first-of-its-kind mid-career program, hybrid and online instruction, the establishment of new fields of study and new pedagogical approaches, while consistently supporting the publishing and dissemination of transformative, influential scholarship from its faculty and students.

As it embarks on its tenth decade, Fletcher continues to evolve to meet the demands of its students and the increasingly complex global landscape. Recognizing the impact climate change is having on the global economy, Fletcher’s Master of International Business this year will sharpen its focus to train leaders through the lens of sustainable business. In response to the shifting needs of the global marketplace, the MIB program also now offers an optional STEM-designated Quantitative Methods track.

“Fletcher@90 is something that will belong to the worldwide Fletcher community, as we come together to honor our past, celebrate our present, and work to shape the future,” said Dean Kyte.
