In my family, there is a legendary fable that we like to tell among ourselves for the occasional chuckle. All multigenerational families probably have some variant of it.

This story took place a generation ago, before the age of smartphones or Wi-Fi. A young man was on the landline phone with his mother. She wanted to email him a digital photo and needed some technical assistance in figuring out how to do it. The son, thinking this was surely a straightforward task that could be explained over the phone in a matter of minutes, readily agreed.
