The Fletcher School is pleased to announce that Admiral Patrick Walsh, F93, FG99, will join the school’s 90th anniversary celebration in Tokyo, Japan. The event will be held at the International House of Japan from 6-9pm on January 5th, 2024.

A decorated veteran of the United States armed forces, Walsh served the U.S. Navy for over 34 years. His many awards and decorations include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. The latter honor, awarded by the government of Japan, recognized Walsh’s work leading Operation Tomodachi, the U.S. assistance operation to support Japan after the 2011 earthquake.

Walsh first came to Fletcher in 1991, shortly after completing a combat tour in Operation Desert Storm. He attended with support from the Admiral Arthur S. Moreau Scholarship Program. Walsh earned his MALD degree in 1993, entered the Doctorate Program with distinction, and received a Ph.D. in 1999. Walsh is a native of Dallas, Texas, and also holds a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.A. from Chapman University.

In addition to Admiral Walsh, attendees will hear remarks from Professor Richard Shultz, Director of Fletcher’s International Security Studies Program and Rockford Weitz, F02, FG08, Professor of Practice in Maritime Studies.
