Fletcher Takes Manhattan

Annual trip to New York City connects Fletcher students to career opportunities
Manhattan

Every fall semester, Fletcher heads to New York City. As the global hub of finance, media, and multilateral institutions, the city is an attractive destination for graduates across the school’s degree programs and fields of study. Its proximity to New England makes it a convenient and valuable destination for Fletcher students to explore career paths.

The Office of Professional Development (OPD) organizes an annual excursion to help students connect with employers and alumni. Classes pause during the trip, allowing students to take full advantage of the experience. In October 2025, more than 135 students joined, visiting 18 leading firms and organizations in site visits arranged by OPD.

In both 2024 and 2025, students visited the office of the International Peace Institute, a non-profit organization working closely with the United Nations system. The office balcony overlooks the U.N. headquarters and provides spectacular views of the East River.

Leading firms from the private sector were also among those encountered on the 2025 trip. Fletcher students visited leading private firms including Goldman Sachs, EY-Parthenon, Google and Mastercard.

Asia Society

Coinciding with the career trip, Fletcher and the Asia Society hosted a special event in New York City on the evening of October 7th, featuring Ambassador Winston Lord, F60, H87. The event explored Lord’s life, career and deep impact on U.S.-China relations, including his role in the 1972 Nixon-Kissinger negotiations with Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai. Academic Dean Daniel Drezner and the Asia Society's Orville Schell joined Lord onstage for the conversation.

Tavitian

Fletcher's Tavitian Scholars, a cohort of 16 mid-career public servants from Armenia, also visited the city during the days of the career trip for special engagements at the Armenian Embassy to the U.N. and the Knickerbocker Club, where they met with board members of the Tavitian Foundation.

Participants also had the opportunity to explore the city, visit landmarks and attend two social networking events at local restaurants. Fletcher alumni are a strong presence in New York, which hosts one of over 80 Fletcher alumni clubs in cities around the world.
