Gender and age matter when it comes to who dies, who is injured and how, who lives, who is affected and in what ways, and what their lives and livelihoods are like during and after crisis and disaster (United Nations 2002; Mazurana et al. 2011; Benelli et al. 2012). Gender and generational analyses are therefore key analytical tools for informing humanitarian scholarship, policy and response.
