Biography

Professor Salacuse, a Tufts University Distinguished Professor, served as The Fletcher School Dean for nine years and was previously Dean of the Southern Methodist University Law School. His teaching and research interests include international negotiation, law and development, international investment law, corporate governance, and leadership. He has been a Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, held the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Comparative Law in Italy, and taught at universities in Nigeria, Congo, Sudan, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain. Professor Salacuse is the author of fifteen books and over seventy academic articles, including The Law of Investment Treaties (Oxford University Press 2015, now in its second edition), The Three Laws of International Investment (2013), Negotiating Life (2013), Seven Secrets for Negotiating with Government (2008), and The Global Negotiator (Palgrave Macmillan), selected by Time Magazine as one of the best negotiation books for 2015. His most recent book is Real Leaders Negotiate! – Gaining, Using, and Keeping the Power to Lead through Negotiation, published in 2017, which for the first time joins the issues of negotiation and organizational leadership to explain how leaders may negotiate to achieve their goals. An experienced international arbitrator who has served as president of international arbitration tribunals in major cases over the last fifteen years, Salacuse has drawn on that experience in designing and teaching his course on international arbitration at the Fletcher School. He is also chairman of the India Fund and Asia Tigers Fund, both closed-end investment companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. A consultant to multinational companies, government agencies, international organizations, universities, foundations and foreign governments, Professor Salacuse is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Law Institute, and the executive committee and faculty of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
