Biography

On the faculty
Although there were several top-tier institutions to consider in DC, where I was living at the time, the factor that most impressed me about The Fletcher School was the faculty. Fletcher boasts world-renowned professors who enjoy starting classroom conversations with their students. Their experiences are diverse and relevant, and they bring their knowledge into the classroom in a way that is enriching and sparks discussion. They make themselves available: in office hours, at events, in line for coffee at Mugar Cafe--which is illustrative of the collaborative culture that is so prevalent here. Because so many Fletcher professors are also practitioners, they have a grasp on the realities of our industries and are constantly shaping their courses and syllabi in ways that they feel will best prepare us for the world we are about to (re)enter.

On career services
Because I am changing fields, I greatly appreciate the resources offered by the Office of Career Services. They constantly bring in speakers from different sectors, and have a wealth of resources on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and networking. They also keep track of the careers of Fletcher alumni and are eager to make connections between alumni and current students. Their programs demonstrate The Fletcher School's commitment to its students, both during our time here and beyond.

My path to Fletcher
When I was exploring graduate school options, I went to a coffee hour with a current student event in Washington, DC. It really stood out to me that a student volunteered an afternoon in the summer to take time to speak with prospective students. In fact, a few additional Fletcher students also attended because they thought it sounded like a good time! When I arrived on campus five months later as a brand-new Fletcher student, the host of the coffee hour remembered me and welcomed me to campus. To me, that cemented my thought that I had made the right choice.
