Monica Cabrera Pellerano
After completing my undergraduate studies in international relations, I was looking for a graduate school of international affairs that was more than just flexible and diverse, although these are amazing qualities that Fletcher has in abundance. Through extensive research, I came to the conclusion that I wanted a school that not only provided me with actionable knowledge, but that went even further and inspired me. It was this last point, which I admit is quite hard to define, that made Fletcher my only choice. Upon visiting the school, I realized that I had found a place that felt as genuine as it was academically exceptional.
On a favorite class
The hardest question you can ask a Fletcher student is "what is your favorite class"? They will definitely keep you there for half an hour drawing out the virtues of all of them. That said, Professor Dyan Mazurana's Gender, Culture and Conflict in Complex Humanitarian Emergencies has truly been a life-changing experience for me. This class stands out from the others because Professor Mazurana contextualizes the material in a very tangible way. She manages to communicate the urgency the situations demand, all the while imparting us with the understanding and the strength needed to confront these realities.
On the Fletcher Family
Although I thought I knew how amazing the student body was before arriving at Fletcher, I have to say that every single day I am reminded of how surprising and amazing they are. And this is not just to say that they all have amazing experiences and backgrounds (which they do), but it is their desire to contribute and help which sets them apart. Fletcher truly is a community.
