Biography

On pulling back for the macro view

I chose Fletcher for a couple of reasons. I knew of Fletcher through my coworkers at AIRINC. Many of them chose to go to Fletcher for their graduate degree, and frequently came back to AIRINC to visit, always speaking highly of the school. More importantly, I knew I wanted to study business but that I did not want a rigid MBA program. I also wanted exposure to a wide range of international careers and the ability to take this time to explore what interests me. Already, in my own career, I have been an auditor, analyst, international researcher, and nonprofit manager. I can only hope for even more variety in my post-Fletcher life! I appreciate the reference to a job or opportunity being "very Fletcher" because I don't feel like you would find that descriptor at most schools, but those opportunities usually ring true with my personality. 

On the dual degree option

The best part is that through Tufts, I was able to study two opposite subjects, both of which I am very passionate about, and do it in 3 years instead of 4. There aren't many schools out there where you can find nutrition policy and international business under the same roof, with two very well-known programs no less! Generally, it's very exciting to know that the flexibility will allow you to take classes not just at any Tufts school, but also in a wide consortium of schools in the Boston area.

On finding potential

I love that one of the business focuses at Fletcher is social impact. Finishing my program at Tufts with this focus felt like the last piece of the puzzle (figuring out life after school) falling into place.  Although I worked at a nonprofit during my time in school, my time at Tufts has helped me realize how much potential there is in the private sector to do good in the world.  I learned about the Sustainable Development Goals, and how many businesses have made it a priority to adopt these into their standard business practices.  It gives me hope for the future that consumers and investors alike care so much about efforts to make a positive impact, not just profits. I realized through Fletcher that being involved in social impact work is critical to my professional goals.
