Why I chose the MIB

One of the reasons I decided to do my masters was to change professional gears. Having worked on cross-border mergers and acquisitions as a corporate lawyer in India, I now intend to work at the intersection of business and public policy with a focus on corporate governance in emerging markets. Most schools that I had shortlisted during the applications process focused exclusively on business (through their MBA course offerings) or public policy (through their MPP programs). Fletcher's MIB program is truly unique, as it is designed to teach students core MBA skills as they would apply in the ubiquitous, inescapable context of global economics, politics and policy that companies and their stakeholders operate in. As an MIB student, I am not only learning corporate finance and managerial economics, but also international finance and international negotiations. The program is designed to equip students with both the hard and soft skills that are so necessary for aspiring global leaders, managers, policy-makers, and consultants to succeed today.

On the Fletcher alumni community

While researching schools, I enlisted the help of a Fletcher alumna in seeking out other Fletcher graduates who could give me deeper insight into what the school had to offer to a prospective student like me. In this endeavour, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Fletcher students and graduates not only took the time to talk to me, but also gave me valuable advice on how to navigate the applications process and select graduate schools to apply to, what future professional prospects I could explore and how I could get there, and what my alternatives could be (some of which I would never have considered otherwise). As a person, I flourish in a collaborative environment, and my introduction to Fletcher's culture of collegiality and mutual cooperation convinced me that I was aiming for the right place. The 'Fletcher mafioso' are not an urban legend -- they truly exist and I have benefitted from their collective lived, academic and professional experience in innumerable ways.
