On choosing Fletcher
When I look back at my decision process, I realize that I chose Fletcher even before I had thought of being a graduate student here. The first time I interacted with Fletcher students was at a student conference in Switzerland. What struck me the most about them was not their brilliance or in-depth knowledge about global issues, or their diversity of origins and experiences, but rather their humility. They all seemed to possess the humility to learn from everyone, and this left a huge impact on me. When I was choosing between schools, it wasn't all that difficult to decide that Fletcher would be the best place, not just for me to flourish academically, but also to contribute to a community of curious and thoughtful individuals.
On the MIB
The MIB program is the only program I have come across that truly appreciates the interconnections between business, society, and polity, at the local and global levels. The MIB program prepares future leaders to not only operate, but to act as stewards at these important junctions. Prior to Fletcher, I had already obtained an MBA degree and completed five years of work experience in the investment banking industry in India. While my prior educational training improved my job performance, I realized that it hadn't prepared me to understand how I could do my job better in the context of my country as a developing nation. I wanted to learn how I could influence decision-making to have a positive impact on society. The MIB program offered me the opportunity to enhance my technical skills and learn about impact investment and long-term non-traditional risk management, which have impacts on broader sections of society.
