Why Fletcher?
As a recently separated military service member, I knew that continuing my education was going to be crucial to my professional goals. As I searched for MBA programs, I found that traditional business programs didn't adequately serve my interests or goals. As someone who is hoping to work in impact investing, Fletcher's Master of International Business (MIB) program turned out to be an absolutely perfect fit. Not only do students build the quantitative skillset necessary to thrive in the world of finance, but they also gain a nuanced understanding of the varied issues facing impoverished populations worldwide. In addition to what is taught in the classroom, Fletcher offers myriad opportunities through various student-led groups to develop their skills in whatever professional focus they may have.
On Fletcher faculty
So far I have found the faculty and quality of the instruction to be superb. Professor Jacque's Corporate Finance course is a course that stands out even though I have no background in finance and was initially somewhat intimidated by the highly quantitative aspects of the course. However, through the case-based approach and Professor Jacque's excellent instruction I have come to truly enjoy analyzing the financial data of the various firms that we have studied in class and found that the financial statements that I initially thought were incomprehensible can ultimately tell a very interesting story.
What is one of the things that has surprised you about your experience at Fletcher?
I realized very early on that my fellow classmates in the MIB program came from a variety of extremely diverse and impressive backgrounds. I had some concerns that putting together a group of highly motivated, type-A personalities together would lead to a competitive and even cutthroat environment. The reality could not be further from the truth. Time and again, I have been in awe of my classmate's eagerness to help others with a problem set, prep for an interview or other professional opportunity, and generally use their time helping others. There is a true sense of community here that has been absolutely wonderful to experience.
