Veteran fundraiser for humanitarian causes

Guillermo De Los Santos was working for a conservation foundation in South Africa when he had an encounter with young children that impelled him to move into humanitarian work. For more than 15 years he has been fundraising nationally and international for humanitarian and health nonprofit organizations including Save the Children, Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and UNICEF. He will now be joining Amnesty International as the new Regional Fundraising Manager for Latin America.

Fundraising is Guillermo’s passion, and his goal is to help NGOs in countries such as Argentina, South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, The Philippines, and others to maximize their humanitarian fundraising avenues. He has extensive experience in direct marketing, international fundraising, donor acquisition, retention and cultivation, creative strategy, budgeting, analysis, and research for nonprofits. One of his proudest accomplishments is increasing the number of regular donors to MSF Argentina from 12,000 to 75,000 in just three years.

Guillermo, who comes from Argentina and speaks Spanish, English, and Portuguese, holds a BA in International Relations from the Universidad del Salvador and an MSc of Major Programme Management from Oxford University. He had wanted to enroll in GMAP for years before he was finally able to do so in January 2019 as a midyear student. Now that he’s here, he has discovered that it offers much more than the diplomacy degree he imagined. “It is the program that allows me to see how far I can go in my career,” he says. “It helps me to realize the leader I could be.”
