On choosing Fletcher
During my last year of undergrad at the University of New Mexico, I had the opportunity to visit schools on the East Coast. Among the six schools I visited, Fletcher was one of the only schools that offered an optional in-person interview, coffee with a current student, and a genuine invitation to attend classes as a part of its prospective admissions process. I was drawn to the honest love that students held for both the education they received at Fletcher, and the Fletcher community. As I spoke to students, I realized that acquiring professional work experience and tangible knowledge prior to attending Fletcher would be incredibly valuable. After speaking with the Admissions Office, I chose to apply through the Map Your Future (MYF) program. The MYF program was the deciding factor that led me to choose Fletcher, because it guaranteed me a place in the Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) degree program, while granting me the opportunity to work three years in the Sultanate of Oman. Those three years were invaluable in helping to formulate my interests and prepare me for my time at The Fletcher School.
A quintessential Fletcher moment
One of the things I most enjoy about Fletcher is the fact that one can be speaking any language in the world while having a coffee in Mugar Cafe and all of a sudden there will be two or three other people who join the conversation because they also speak the language.
Using your degree to make a difference in the world
As a Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellow, I will be joining the U.S. Foreign Service after graduation. I hope to utilize the wealth of knowledge on energy, the environment, and entrepreneurship that I gain here at Fletcher to help governments and people confront and prepare for the growing challenge of climate change. I believe there needs to be ingenuity and a depth of understanding of various policy tools in order to creatively address a changing environment. It is through discussing these topics that the Fletcher experience will provide me the knowledge to confidently work with governments across the globe on this issue.
