On the MA
After 10 years of experience as a transactional lawyer working both in law firms and in an international organization, I was looking for a one year master degree for mid-career professionals with a highly flexible curriculum to address my career goals. With a legal background advising mostly on energy and infrastructure transactions, I am planning to expand my knowledge in the field of international relations and drive my career towards political advisory and diplomacy. The MA is a perfect fit as it is a one year degree targeted towards professionals with a minimum of eight years of experience. It is expressly designed for individuals like myself who are on leave from their employer. It also allows me to choose courses relevant to my career goals, namely in the areas of international relations, communication and negotiation, by selecting them from each of the three divisions: International Law and Organizations; Diplomacy, History and Politics; and Economics and International Business.
On the alumni network
The involvement and availability of Fletcher alumni was extremely important in making a decision throughout the admission process. Every person I reached out to made themselves available to speak with me about The Fletcher School, the curriculum, and how it could fit with my career and personality. I first contacted an MA alumnus whose profile was available on the Fletcher website. He was so open about sharing his experience and providing advice during the application process, as well as connecting me with Admissions. I also met with a MALD graduate and member of the European Advisory Group based in London, who was similarly outstanding in sharing with me her experience. I even attended a Fletcher coffee hour in London with various alumni. Overall, there were numerous alumni who answered questions and helped me on my graduate school search.
