Honing Real World Skills; Landing His Dream Job

Recent Fletcher grad, Andrew Kimball (F18), credits his time at Fletcher with building the skills and relationships key to his daily work as an energy policy analyst for Massachusetts.

"When working in government, it can be easy to get bogged down in the details of what you're doing," Andrew Kimball (F18) says. He says his Fletcher education, which emphasized taking a holistic approach when setting policy, gives him the edge in assessing not only how policies will interact with other parts of a government agenda but also how they'll impact the society the policies are supposed to serve. "After all, that's why we enter into public service," he says.

Upon completing his Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy - or MALD - at Fletcher in 2018, Kimball almost immediately landed his dream job working as an energy policy analyst for the Massachusetts state government, working in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

To what does he owe that credit (aside from his hard work, studies and dedication to understanding of the issues)? He'll tell you it was thanks to his cohort of passionate, like-minded, sustainability-focused students at Fletcher, the honing of real-world skills he uses every day in his job, and the practitioners and professors to whom he had one-on-one access as a student at The Fletcher School.
