MIB Experiential Learning

The MIB program encourages students to test their classroom knowledge in the world through various programs and initiatives:

Business plan competitions

The Fletcher student body is entrepreneurial by nature, and whether students are looking to just experiment with their own start up or incubate their post-Fletcher business, we provide opportunities for learning and funding. The Fletcher D-Prize Poverty Solution Venture Competition awards to a Fletcher student or team up to $20,000 in funding to pilot an initiative that distributes proven poverty solutions in the developing world. The Tufts 100K Business Plan competition offers both classic and socially-oriented tracks, and Fletcher has a long history of winners of funds and services. Consulting class

Each year, The Field Studies in Global Consulting Course matches students with client organizations to develop international market entry solutions and support strategic decisions in international business, trade, policy, economics, and finance. The clients benefit from insightful, multi-disciplinary consulting and exposure to the Fletcher talent pool for employment consideration, while students gain valuable experience working on real-life issues for senior managers. The program boasts some of the best known multinationals, financial services firms and government/NGO clients including Pfizer, Hitachi, Siemens, State Street Corporation, Bank of America, the Nike Foundation, the MasterCard Foundation, the U.S. State Department, and the Government of Mexico.

Travel and research funding

Fletcher's flexible curriculum encourages students to pursue niche areas of interest in their classes, for their capstones, and in their extracurricular activities, such as business plan competitions and entrepreneurial ventures. The Institute for Business in the Global Context sponsors independent student research to support these interests. Whether funding a localized survey in Brazil to test a business idea, or interviewing executives and government leaders in Sri Lanka to learn about microfinance innovations, the grants are intended to encourage students to expand their work beyond campus.

International Trips

Each year, the International Business Club plans an exploration trip to a different region of the world. From Brazil to Dubai, these trips allow students to meet with alumni, visit potential employers, and learn more about the region, its economy and business practices. The student club leaders work with our Corporate Outreach office to create a full agenda.
