“I was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in the inner city. Coming from that to where I am today has been a challenging and eye-opening journey. I’m a baby boomer, so I’m part of the first group to attend desegregated schools, and in pursuing a college education, I was part of the first wave of minorities entering the ivory tower.
I feel like I am in my element at Fletcher. I am comfortable here. I was an anomaly at other institutions, but Fletcher is completely different. All of my colleagues have a tremendous breadth and depth in the field of international affairs.”

More about Professor Hunter
“One of the biggest values of a Fletcher education is the network. I can’t emphasize that enough. With many of the top-tier graduate programs, the educational component is comparable, but what distinguishes Fletcher is the community. It doesn’t matter if someone is from a different graduating class, whether it is a student or a professor, or what background, profession, or part of world from which they come. Once you have that Fletcher bond & - all of you went through that experience - it’s an immediate connection.”

“I came to Fletcher for three main reasons: academics, diversity of the student body, and the great sense of community. Beyond the fact that Fletcher has amazing faculty, courses, and resources, it was important for me to be in classes with students from all over the world. With such an international student body I knew that I would be challenged both in the classroom and in the community to look at issues from a more global perspective.”
