The Fletcher School

A Graduate School of International Affairs

Student Profiles

Matt MacGregor, MALD 08, USA

“In addition to its excellent and diverse student body, its flexible curriculum, its top rate professors, and the opportunity to cross register at other universities in the Boston area, I chose Fletcher because of something more intangible—its "feel.” Students at Fletcher are proud to be at Fletcher, and that "feel” is contagious. It is instrumental in creating a great social atmosphere, learning environment, and willingness amongst alumni to support current students as they move ahead with their careers.”

"Fletcher’s curriculum allows students to pursue their specific career focuses while simultaneously garnering valuable skills in other sectors. I came to Fletcher to study international development, but now plan on using Fletcher’s flexibility to take business and non-profit management courses to compliment my core development focus. Part of the "value added” of Fletcher’s curriculum is that it allows you to both specialize and generalize at the same time.”

"The problems facing the developing world and the solutions that will help to solve them are inherently interdisciplinary. The flexibility of the Fletcher curriculum means that I can tackle each aspect of those problems in my coursework. But perhaps more importantly, it also means that I am likely to be sitting next to a banker, an engineer, a linguist, or a securities studies student as I tackle them. The result is a dynamic learning environment that much more accurately reflects the real world than traditional, narrowly focused curricula.”
