I was indoctrinated into the art world at an early age due to my father’s passion for collecting art. When I was a wee little lad, my parents forced me to take art lessons at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. There, I was exposed to many different mediums that have influenced the way I take photographs today. One of the first times I found myself in the principle’s office was due to an art offense. As a first grader, my class was experimenting with an elementary form of art (dot-to-dots). My first grade teacher didn’t approve of the nude my dots formed. At that point, my mother had a little explaining to do.
From that point on, I have always struggled with the idea of what is, and what isn’t art. As an amateur photographer, I have learned that digital is the best way to go for this very reason. Out of the thousands of photos I have shot, one in a hundred meet my current definition of “art”. I have saved several trees by going digital.
The pictures you see here today are all from my travels. Many of these are from countries I have lived in for a short time as a business journalist. These countries include Kazakhstan, Romania, Jordan and Russia. Others are from various countries I visited along the way. Travel has always been my greatest passion. Experiencing different cultures and seeing the world are definitely my greatest ambitions in life. The primary purpose of focusing on International Business at Fletcher is to find myself in a position that allows me to see the world and live in several countries. While my focus is more on Russia, Eastern Europe and the CIS, I intend to expand it as life goes on.
