Cholita Woman
La Paz, Bolivia 1996
James Patton
The Bolivian Chola woman, or Cholita, wears the traditional indigenous dress adapted at some post-colonial time to include a British bowler hat. This is a unique and distinctive dress and has become a greater point of cultural pride in recent years, as public figures, including one National Senator, have begun to wear full Chola dress in office.
