Beetles
Rural Paraguay 1995
James Patton
That morning my beekeeping student, an aspiring local politician, had brought me out to his bee-yard to help with its reconstruction after opposition supporters had thrown over a dozen or so of his two-story hives. The africanized bees were in a terrific fury; I brought my camera but was only able to get this one curious picture of beetles, resembling giant ladybugs, before arriving at the apiary. I was never able to determine if they were feeding or mating as we were forced to flee the area in all haste when the bees became overly aggressive.
