I was particularly astonished by the magnificent sky formations that balanced the magical colors and shapes below. I soon realized (from the roaring thunder that echoed throughout the acoustic canyon) that it was the incoming monsoon that I was watching, accompanied by fantastic lightning storms. Unfortunately, I had no idea monsoons occurred in the summer, let alone in Utah. It was a gloriously beautiful, if not exhausting, dash back up the six-mile trail to the car.
