Father’s Helper
Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, 1999
Hélène Lawler

This young boy worked harder than most adults I have encountered. While his father drove the boat, this boy ran into town, collected tourists who needed a lift, herded us into the boat, collected fees, tied and untied ropes and then stood at the bow, keen eyes watching for signals from shore as to where they should stop next.
