Guatemala – Full of Contrasts
San Pedro, Guatemala -- 1999
Hélène Lawler

This initially unremarkable photograph is by far my favourite representation of what I observed in Guatemala. Here, traditional and modern are superimposed, as is the female/male divide. The young girl in her traditional dress, startled, with feet cut off, watches as her westernized male counterpart zoom by, not quite in focus.
