The 2002 summer session offers courses particularly relevant to a world
changed by September
11th. Courses in
creating and enforcing international human rights law; negotiation in an
international setting; international peace keeping operations;
international political economy, with a focus on development;
humanitarian relief, human rights advocacy, and conflict resolution;
international communication and the role of public diplomacy;
fundamental economic concepts and their applications; and major issues
facing the world economy, such as economic integration, the WTO and
trade policy, and the political economy of policy reform are all being
taught this summer.
We are often asked
whether students who are not degree candidates can attend classes at the
Fletcher School. This opportunity is offered only during the summer
session. Working professionals, students enrolled in other graduate
programs, undergraduates of high academic standards, and those seeking
to learn more about Fletcher without making a commitment to a degree
program are welcome in the Summer School.
Working professionals seeking to strengthen their skills or to change
careers, will find the Certificate in International Relations of
particular interest. This certificate is designed for non-matriculating
students. Highly individualistic and flexible, it allows professionals
to choose courses most suited to their work needs. The certificate can
be completed in two summers by taking two courses in each of two years;
however, it need not be completed in that time period. Many candidates
find that taking one course each summer best suits their schedules.
Courses must be taken for credit, and audited courses cannot count
toward the certificate.
Because the Fletcher School does not have open enrollment in its summer
session, candidates must complete the application form, and present some
credentials, indicating an ability to perform graduate level academic
work.
In the summer, Fletcher degree candidates and students attending only
during the summer have an opportunity to interact, to discuss, and to
create strategies for the future. We invite you to explore the Summer
School’s website, and to join us this summer!
