Praxis is Here!

It was nothing short of a miracle. A new issue of Praxis: The Fletcher Journal of Development Studies hit the bookshelves this summer. This was no small task given that Praxis was not published in 2001 and all information regarding the operations of the journal was lost.

Meira Neggaz (MALD ’03), the 2002 Editor-in-Chief, led the charge to reestablish Praxis as a resource for students, educators and professionals interested in the field of economic development. After she assembled a team of editors and marketing managers, the 2002 issue began to take shape. Meetings were conducted in Meira’s living room and there was always an ample supply of chips and soda to keep the brain juices flowing.

“We really started from scratch, we had no guidance, no experienced staff, little outside help and no idea where to even begin and yet, we managed to produce a journal which I think we can all be really proud of,” says Meira. “We got big names in the field with little difficulty and we raised enough money to be able to do it.”

 Call for Papers !!
Praxis is seeking submissions for its spring 2003 issue on Development in Transition. Details...

The Institute of Human Security at The Fletcher School provided generous funding to support the publication of Praxis.

The 2002 issue focuses on human rights and development and features pieces by: Peter Uvin, the Henry Leir Chair of International Humanitarian Studies at The Fletcher School, Hugo Slim, a lecturer in international humanitarianism at Oxford Brookes University, Christina Harrison, the director of The Human Rights Advocate, and Lawrence Dixon, a former project manager for CARE in Sierra Leone.

“This issue of Praxis is timely and important,” writes Dr. John Hammock, former President of Oxfam America. “It brings together some of the recent thinking on the relationship between rights and development.”

Ready to build on last year’s success, the 2003 staff has already begun preparations for next year’s issue. A team of 12 students (four returning members) has been organized and will oversee the publication of the next Praxis, which is due to be released in April of 2003.

Praxis is seeking submissions for next year’s issue. Papers should be 15-30 double-space typewritten pages, with references in endnote format in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style. A hard copy and electronic version, as well as an abstract, should be provided no later than December 13, 2003 to the address listed below.

Praxis is available for purchase. The price is $3, plus $1.50 for postage. Please make checks payable to The Trustees of Tufts College and mail to the address below:
