CLASS GIFT
CLASS OF 2002
Two weeks after Fletcher’s Class of 2002 began classes, terrorists struck, on September 11. This traumatic – indeed devastating – event provided a defining moment for the class. As the academic year ended, the class decided on its class gift: a fund for Fletcher’s Ginn Library to enhance its collections on terrorism and in particular the root causes of terrorism. With Ben Ball (F '02) coordinating the project, the class collected more than $4000 for this gift. Each book purchased with the fund will have the book plate, "Gift of Fletcher School Class of 2002."
The Ginn Library staff has already started ordering books, including the following sampling:
Is Jihad a Just War?: War, Peace, and Human Rights under Islamic and Public International Law by Hilmi Zawati.
New Challenges for Citizen Global Security Peacekeeping by Adam Curle.
Terrorism in the Twenty-First Century by Cindy Combs
Shattering the Myth: Islam Beyond Violence by Bruce Lawrence.
This class gift has special significance because of the terrorist events, and it helps the library fulfill its goal of providing the intellectual resources to help Fletcher students increase their understanding of a complex world.
