New York Career Trip 2001
Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9 mark the dates for this year’s annual Fletcher New York Career Trip, traditionally held each year around Veterans’ Day. On these two days the school suspends classes and approximately 120 students, or one third of the total student body, head down to New York City.
Once in New York, students attend a series of alumni career panels and smaller break-out lunches covering a wide variety of career fields. These panels and lunches are designed to introduce students to the variety of career possibilities related to the Fletcher degree, as well as provide them with the chance to meet alumni and other professionals currently employed in their fields of interest. Topics covered by this year’s New York Trip include:

The alumni do more than their fair share to welcome the students. Many take part in the panels and lunches, thereby taking time from their very busy schedules to “give back” to the school and meet with its students. Still others, many of whom participate in the Alumni Mentor Program, make themselves available to students interested in their particular career field who wish to meet for an informational interview. Some even provide accommodations for students during the trip.
The largest show of support from the alumni, however, revolves around the alumni-student networking reception held on the evening between the two days (this year, November 8). This is the one chance for all the alumni and students to come together under one roof. Each year this event is extremely popular, with attendance reaching up to 350 Fletcher alumni, students, staff, and spouses.
The New York skyline may be altered following September 11, but the warmth and enthusiasm of the Fletcher alumni of New York City remains undaunted. So too does the curiosity and spirit of the Fletcher students. Come early November, we’ll see you in New York!
