Paula Broadwell, Associate Director

Paula Broadwell is an Associate Director of the Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies at The Fletcher School. As a former active duty US military officer, Paula has held counter-terrorism assignments with an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Defense Intelligence Agency, US Special Operations Command, and as the Senior Military Strategist for the Middle East and Africa at HQ US Army Europe. She has also served as the Senior Intelligence and Security Officer for the 95th Military Police (MP) Battalion in Mannheim, Germany, the largest MP battalion in the world. She has commanded a Defense Intelligence Agency Document Exploitation Unit in Bosnia, and led Korean and US soldiers on the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea. She has worked and traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East and brings over a decade of national and international experience in homeland security and counter terrorism initiatives with US and foreign agencies. In addition to her professional military experience, Paula has worked as a security consultant and an engineering consultant in the private sector. Building on her Conflict Resolution graduate education, she has also served as a trained community intermediary and is an International Ombuds and Harvard Ombuds mediator. She is also the founder and president of the New England chapter of Women in International Security.

Paula Broadwell is presently a Masters in Public Administration candidate at the Kennedy School of Government’s Public Policy Program, Harvard University, a National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Fellow, and a candidate in the US Army Command and General Staff College. Paula received an MA degree in International Security and a Certificate in International Negotiations and Conflict Resolution from the University of Denver, Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). She has also studied (Arabic) at the University of Jordan, Amman, and counter-terrorism operations in various NATO schools in Europe and with the FBI. Paula graduated from the US Military Academy, West Point, with a BS in Systems Engineering and Political Geography.

Paula is a counter-terrorism news commentator on local channels, including CN8 and NECN, and national media networks, such as Fox News Network, and has written opinion editorials for the Christian Science Monitor, The Denver Post and The Boston Globe, as well as conference reports for the Stanley Foundation.
