  • »The Jebsen Center To Host A Dinner For Their Research Graduates On Thursday, May 17, 2007 The Jebsen Center hosted a dinner for the Center's 2007 researcher graduates. The dinner was held at The Fletcher School. Graduates in attendance were Andrea Dew, Clea Kaske, Michael Sellito, Assaf Moghadam, Stacy Neal, and Colleen Traughber.

  • »Jebsen Center Researcher Colleen Traughber awarded the National Security Education Program Boren Fellowship Congratulations to Colleen Traughber for being awarded the National Security Education Program Boren Fellowship to study Arabic abroad. This is a very selective and competitive program. The NSEP provides a unique opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests. It also was “designed to provide Americans with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in the areas of the word critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for a commitment to seek work in the federal government.”

  • » Jebsen Center Researcher Dr. Assaf Moghadam Joins COUNTERTERRORISM BLOG as Contributing Expert Dr. Assaf Moghadam is the newest Contributing Expert for the COUNTERTERRRISM BLOG. Dr. Moghadam is a Fellow in National Security at the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University. He is also a Research Associate at the Jebsen Center for Counterterrorism Studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where he recently defended his dissertation, titled “The Globalization of Martyrdom: Al Qaeda, Salafi-Jihadism, and the Diffusion of Suicide Attacks.” http://counterterrorismblog.org/2007/03/assef_moghadam_joins_us_as_con.php

On Tuesday, March 13, 2007 Jebsen Center Researcher Lorenzo Vidino testified as an expert witness in the US District Court of Eastern Virginia in the case filed by the families of the victims of the USS Cole against Sudan in Rus et al. vs Sudan.  View the story in the Virginia Pilot.
  • » Jebsen Center Researcher Colleen Traughber received the Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship. The program provides young American professionals with two high-level work placements in the federal government and private sector in Germany. Three seminars taking place throughout Europe provide an in-depth understanding of issues facing Germany and the European Union today. Candidates are competitively chosen from the fields of business administration, economics, journalism, law, political science and public policy. Only 300 students have had this opportunity since 1984!
  • » Jebsen Center Researcher and Staff Christian Westra received The Harold W. Rosenthal Fellowship. The Fellowship offers talented students pursuing a career in international relations the opportunity to spend a summer in professional fellowship positions with a Member of Congress or in the State Department. In most years, only two to four students – from across the United States -- are awarded the fellowship, each receiving a stipend for his or her work! Christian may be working in the US State Department Counter-Terrorism Coordination office.

As you know, this is a highly selective process wherein only a handful of Fletcher students are taken from the MALD program. The JCCTS looks forward to having them on the team for some years to come!

  • » Jebsen Center Researcher Brings Her Findings Back From Georgia On Wednesday, February 21 Jebsen Center hosted a Brown-Bag Luncheon. Jebsen Center Researcher Colleen Traughber presented Terror-Crime Nexus? The New Silk road in the Trade of Terrorism and Arms, Drugs, and Human Trafficking. Colleen spent the summer of 2006 in Tbilisi, Georgia for her MALD thesis, which looks at the links between terrorism and arms, drug, and human trafficking in the South Caucuasus.
  • » Jebsen Center Researcher Examines Israeli Withdrawls from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip On Wednesday, February 14 the Jebsen Center hosted a Brown-Bag Luncheon for Jebsen Center Researcher, Fletcher PhD Candidate, and Belfer Research Fellow Joshua Gleis. Joshua presented Withdrawing Under Fire: A Comparative Case Study of the Israeli Withdrawals from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip and discussed how to more effectively withdraw from an insurgency. By studying the Israeli withdrawals from Lebanon in 2000 and the Gaza Strip in 2005, the presentation sought to improve a state's exit strategy when a decision is made to withdraw from a given territory in which it is currently engaged with an insurgent force that is using guerrilla, terrorist, or other fourth-generation tactics
