Academic Centers and Institutes
- The Terrorism Research Initiative (TRI):
The Jebsen Center is a participating institution of the TRI,
an initiative that seeks to support the international
community of terrorism researchers and scholars, especially
through the facilitation of collaborative and cooperative
efforts. TRI was formed by scholars in order to provide the
global community with centralized tools from which to better
actualize the full potential of its labours. TRI is working to build a truly inclusive international community and empower it through the provision of collaborative projects to extend the impact of participants' research activities. The Jebsen Center is also a contributor to TRI's online publication, Perspectives on Terrorism, which seeks to provide a unique platform for established and emerging scholars to present their perspectives on the developing field of terrorism research and scholarship; to present original research and analysis; and to provide a forum for discourse and commentary on related issues.
- The Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS)
The Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS) was established in July 1996 as an autonomous research institute within the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. IDSS was inaugurated by Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence and hosts Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, one of the world’s foremost experts on Islamic terrorism.
- Combating Terrorism Center at West Point
Hosted at the United States Military Academy, the Center leverages the operational and academic expertise of its staff to provide cadets with experiential opportunities for studying terrorism, counter-terrorism, homeland security and weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, the Center conducts extensive outreach and engagement programs to support policy makers and senior officials and military personnel tasked with counter-terrorism policy implementation.
- Council on Foreign Relations: Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism
Nonpartisan website that provides multiple forums for scholars to explore and expose ideas on foreign policy to increase topical education. Provides articles from Foreign Affairs, transcripts, videos, and links dealing with terrorism.
- The Brookings Institution - International Response to Terrorism
One of the foremost American think tanks offers its research and findings on the global response to terrorism.
- Rand Corporation -- Terrorism and Homeland Security
RAND is a long-time leader in terrorism research and analysis. This website provides quality findings, projects, and publications relating to terrorism and counter-terrorism.
- Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction
Site on the Gilmore Commission hosted by the Rand Corporation. PDF report of the commission available for download.
- The Heritage Foundation: Terrorism
Site provides The Heritage Foundation’s research on terrorism has become a vital resource for finding solutions that will help make government action effective.
- The Cranfield University Resilience Centre
The purpose of the Cranfield University Resilience Centre is "to improve the capacity of organisations to respond to emergency and disruptive challenges - whether natural, accidental or deliberate - through the provision of relevant education, training, research and operational support".
- The Washington Institute for Near East Policy
The Washington Institute's Stein Program on Terrorism, Intelligence, and Policy was established in the wake of the The Institute seeks to inject dispassionate, research-driven analysis—supported by fact and expertise—into the making of US Middle East policy.

The aim of this academic research project is to investigate the effectiveness of past counterterrorism campaigns and to derive some constant features from their analysis in order to empirically inform policy makers. It is conducted by researchers from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
