Giving to the Jebsen Center:
Support Cutting-Edge Counter-Terrorism Research and Programs
The Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies is an academic research center housed within the International Security Studies Program (ISSP) at The Fletcher School, Tufts University. Through our research and programming efforts, our goal is to assist counter-terrorism professionals in their efforts to proactively counter both present and future terrorist threats. To do this, the Jebsen Center focuses on the development of terrorist
prediction, prevention and preemption techniques and understanding.
The Jebsen Center was created in 2005 with the commitment of its founding donor, director, and ISSP faculty, as well as the commitment and reputation of The Fletcher School, the oldest graduate school of international relations in the United States. In its relatively brief existence, the Jebsen Center has experienced rapid growth as it conducts research and formulates policy options for counter-terrorism officials around the world. Our timely focus attracts students, faculty, and policy experts—as well as foundation and government donors—who recognize the significance of our mission.
To meet this growing demand, the Jebsen Center depends on the generous support of private and public sector organizations, corporations, and individuals to carry out our activities and increase our capacity to undertake new challenges. We welcome contributions of any size, all of which help the Jebsen Center to fulfill its unique mission of predicting, preempting, and preventing terrorist attacks around the world.
Opportunities To Support Our Work:
Unless otherwise specified, all contributions to the Jebsen Center will support:
The Jebsen Center Opportunity Fund
The Jebsen Center pools donations that are not earmarked for any particular project into a discretionary fund that supports targets of opportunity that arise throughout the year, outside the boundaries of existing annual planned activities. The flexibility of this fund is vital, allowing it to be allocated to a variety of initiatives, including speaker and lecture series, conferences, researcher funding, and outreach. We are an active research center, and this fund enables us to leverage immediate opportunities that arise from our outreach initiatives. Gifts of any size can be made to the Jebsen Center Opportunity Fund.
In addition to the Jebsen Center Opportunity Fund, gifts to our endowed programs are also significant to our long-term goals. Contributing to one of our endowment funds will allow the Center to operate core programs based on interest income only, ensuring that your gift will continue to support the Center in perpetuity. These gifts represent a living legacy for donors who wish to make a lasting impact in the fight against global terrorism. Our endowed programs include:
Endowed Faculty Position: Professorship of Counter-Terrorism Studies
The Jebsen Center is seeking a donor for a named, endowed Fletcher School faculty position of Professor of Counter-Terrorism Studies. The goal of the Professorship in Counter-Terrorism Studies is to prepare students as future leaders in the counter-terrorism field. The threat from global terrorism is one that will confront subsequent generations, and through instruction in courses including Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Ideology and Terrorism, the Jebsen Center aims to arm students with the tools necessary to create successful and proactive counter-terrorism policy. The Professor in Counter-Terrorism Studies will teach students, advise faculty, and engage in intellectual activities that both strengthen the curriculum and enhance the reputation of both the Jebsen Center and The Fletcher School.
Required Capital Endowment: $4,000,000+
Endowed Senior Fellowship Program
The Jebsen Center recruits Senior Research Fellows who are experts in the counter-terrorism field, including luminaries such as best-selling author and terrorism scholar Dr. Rohan Gunaratna. The program, which would be named after the endowing donor, supports cutting-edge research and produces end-products for the Jebsen Center, including the JCCTS Research Briefing Series, our Special Releases, and other web-based and print content.
Required Capital Endowment: $1,500,000+
Endowed Guest Speaker/Lecture Series
The Jebsen Center currently supports guest speakers and lecturers throughout the year at events that are open to both the Fletcher community and the general public. The Center wishes to endow a formal lecture series, to be named after the donor. This program would support up to twenty major lectures per year by visiting scholars, who would give a private presentation, a classroom-oriented presentation, and a public lecture.
Required Capital Endowment: $1,000,000+
Endowed Student Research Funding Program
The Jebsen Center supports student research projects aimed at predicting, preventing, and preempting terrorist activities around the world. We encourage Fletcher School students and faculty to travel and conduct primary field research as a means to make an original contribution to counter-terrorism studies. This program would be named after the endowing donor and would support approximately ten to twenty student and faculty research projects per year, as well as a series of Jebsen Center Brown Bag Luncheon presentations – open forums where student researchers share their experiences and results with the Fletcher School community.
Required Capital Endowment: $1,000,000+
