On Thursday, December 14th the Jebsen Center hosted a Holiday Party at The IL Faro Restaurant in Medford Square. The party was well attended by Jebsen Center Director Russell Howard and his wife Paula, Deputy Director Paula Broadwell,
her husband Scott and son Lucien, Ginn Librarian Miriam Selter, Jebsen Center staff and researchers.

Jebsen Center sponsors International Security Professional Development Social held at The Harvard Faculty Club
The Jebsen Center in partnership with the Fletcher ISSP Military Fellows program,
the Harvard National Security Fellows program, and various international security
oriented students hosted a professional networking event at the Harvard Faculty
Club on December 7th, 2006. The event provided an environment for students
interested in security to meet and speak with the nation's top military and
security individuals on special fellowships at The Fletcher School, Harvard, and
Boston University.
- » November 29, 2006 the Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies will host a Brown-Bag Luncheon
The Jebsen Center is hosting a Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism student study group session on November 29th, 2006 in room 703 from 1:00-2:30 pm. This informal discussion aims to encourage a student dialogue about causes and consequences of transnational terrorism. No background in counter-terrorism studies is needed. Passion and Curiosity about solutions to predicting, preventing, or preempting terrorism are welcome. Our guest speaker for the week is Fletcher PhD Candidate Alejandra Mariela Bolanos, MALD 2002. Alejandra will speak about "Terrorism Trends and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Threat”.

organizes a round-table with Fletcher Alum Kakha Khizanishvili.
On November 21, 2006 Jebsen Center research assistant Colleen Traughber organized a round table with Fletcher alum Kakha Khizanishvili (F’02) on the topic of “Georgia since the Rose Revolution.” Kakha Khizanishvili led a discussion about the interplay of revolution, security, and good governance as well as described his experiences in Georgia's transformation to democracy. Kakha is the director of the police academy in the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In Support Of Its "Female Muslim Suicide Bombers:
Implications for the Jihad and Counter-Terrorism" Research Project
September 2006: The Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies is pleased to announce the receipt of a generous grant from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. The Bradley Foundation has awarded $60,000 to the Jebsen Center in support of its "Female Muslim Suicide Bombers: Implications for the Jihad and Counter-Terrorism" research project. The project will provide a comprehensive view into the motivations, methods, and future roles of female terrorist agents in extremist movements—-particularly in al Qaeda—-and what their presence may signify for U.S. and global intelligence and security communities.
Jebsen Center Director Brigadier General (ret.) Russell D. Howard and Jebsen Center Graduate Assistant Jennie Dow will lead the research effort throughout the one-year grant period.
Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation is devoted to strengthening American democratic capitalism and the institutions, principles, and values that sustain and nurture it. - On September 10, 2006 after his appearance to a full audience.
"Today we are faced with an astounding situation that seriously threatens both the East and the West," he stated to a mostly welcoming audience.
"One should not engage in violence in the name of any religion, just as one should not and ought not turn the world into one's military camp in the name of democracy."

- »On Thursday, November 2, 2006 a group of Fletcher and Kennedy School of Government Students traveled to New York City with Deputy Director, Paula Broadwell to the home of Iranian Ambassador to the UN Javad Zarif. The students openly discussed topics from Iran’s domestic political structures to the nuclear cooperation between Russia and Iran and its implications for foreign policy with the US. The dinner provoked stimulating discussion from the students regarding Iran’s interest in nuclear bombs. Ambassador Zarif remarked on Iran’s interest in the benefits of nuclear power as an alternative source of energy. Additionally, the students received a tour of the home and enjoyed a traditional Iranian dinner.
