Mina RemyInternship - University for Peace, Aftrica Programme Office, Addis Ababa
Mina has been working on the regional integration, peace, and security reader as well as a compendium of key documents relating to regional integration and peace in Africa. The programme has held two week-long seminars since her arrival. She served as a rapportteur for the most recent one (Short Course on Conflict Prevention, Management, and Resolution in Africa), and will reprise that role for the upcoming workshop on Peace and Development in Africa in July. These events have been a great setting to meet academics, practitioners and government officials working in Conflict Resolution, Development, Peace, and Security in East Africa in particular, but also on the continent in general. She has begun the process of establishing a network for her research. Thankfully, UPEACE-Africa and Addis Ababa University recently launched a joint a Master’s Peace and Security Program with classes to start this fall. She has access to the individuals and resources involved in this program, and they have agreed to facilitate meetings with key individuals (government and civil sector) working in the security sector. Biography Mina is a dual JD/MALD candidate at Fletcher and BC Law School. Prior to Fletcher, she worked as a health educator at Harbor Health Services, Inc. in Boston; served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin; and, was employed as the Americas Program coordinator at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. Her study interests include human security, international security, law and development, rule of law, and transitional justice.
