Nicholas KenneyInternship - U.S. Department of State’s Near East Affairs Bureau, Office of Israeli and Palestinian Affairs (NEA/IPA) This summer he will be working in the U.S. Department of State’s Near East Affairs Bureau, Office of Israeli and Palestinian Affairs (NEA/IPA). His work will involve supporting the desk officers as they research and analyze issues related to the ongoing political processes in Israel and the Palestinian territories and to U.S. foreign policy in the region, more broadly. His recent nine months in the field combined with the work at NEA/IPA will provide a solid foundation for developing his masters thesis on the design and implementation of peace processes in the context of counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism strategies. Biography Nicholas A. Kenney is a candidate in the Fletcher School’s Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy program. At Fletcher he has focused on conflict resolution processes, security studies, and the Middle East. Recently, he has worked in Jerusalem for Search for Common Ground where he directed a project supporting regional cooperation between the Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian Ministries of Health on avian flu and infectious disease preparedness. He also has worked on a project centered on the issue of the Old City of Jerusalem in final status negotiations. Prior to starting at Fletcher he practiced law, specializing in constitutional and administrative matters. He earned a J.D. from Boston College Law School where he concentrated in international law and spent his last semester abroad studying and working in London, which included research and analysis of the Good Friday peace process. He holds a B.A. in history (Modern European) from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. |
