| The Asian Telecom Story:
Applying Lessons Learned in the US Allen Long, President of Long & Associates, LLC, a telecom and high tech marketing strategy and strategic planning consulting firm based near San Francisco, spoke to Fletcher students about the U.S. telecommunications deregulation experience and its implications for Japanese telecommunications carriers’ marketing strategy, legal/regulatory strategy, and strategic planning processes. In a lecture sponsored by the International Business Program, Mr. Long explained that Japanese telecom carriers often study emerging U.S. telecom services and technologies; carrier marketing strategies and best practices; and carrier legal/regulatory strategies to identify critical success factors and pitfalls to avoid. These findings provide valuable “lessons learned,” since many trends that emerge in the U.S. telecom market eventually migrate to Japan. Mr. Long provided several examples of marketing strategy and legal/regulatory strategy lessons learned from the U.S. telecom experience. Mr. Long has sixteen years experience providing marketing strategy, strategic planning, competitive intelligence, strategic alliance, and business development consulting to executives worldwide in the telecom, Internet, software, and hardware industries. Mr. Long’s clients range from start-ups to Global 100 firms. For more information, visit: http://www.allenlongassociates.com
