Education in Global Leadership
The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy offers a two-year academic
program leading to a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD), and a
one-year pro-gram leading to a Master of Arts (MA) for eligible mid-career
professionals. A few highly qualified students may be directly admitted to
pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Most students committed to a career in the private sector will complete
the requirements for one of the following certificate programs or will
pursue a joint degree program at HEC or Dartmouth:
Certificate Program in International Finance & Banking
For students aspiring to careers in the global financial service industry,
the International Business Program offers a rigorous sequence of
courses in accounting, finance, banking, and economics coupled with
international business transaction and securities law. Students in this
program are also required to intern with a financial institution and to
write a thesis on a related topic. This combination of experience and
academic preparation uniquely prepares graduates for the fast-paced world of
international finance.
Certificate Program in Strategic Management & International
Consultancy
For students aspiring to careers with management consulting firms and
multinational corporations, this program offers a rigorous sequence of
courses in global strategic management, corporate finance, and the economics
of emerging markets. Students are also trained in international business
transactions, foreign private investment, and international intellectual
property law. This program also requires students to intern in the private
sector and to write a thesis on a related topic. Students who graduate from
this program are competently prepared for the rapidly evolving world of
international business.
Joint M.A.L.D.-M.B.A. Degree Program with Amos Tuck School of Business
Administration
Students have the option to earn both a M.A.L.D. at the Fletcher School and
a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Amos Tuck School of
Business Administration at Dartmouth College. This program can be completed
in a total of three years-each degree normally requires two years. Because
each school credits several electives from the other school toward its
degree, a wide selection of business courses become available to the student
choosing this path.
Joint MALD-MBA with Institut Superieur des Affaires (ISA) at the HEC
(Hautes Etudes Commerciales) School of Management in France
Fletcher students may also elect to enroll in the "transatlantic" MALD-MBA
degree program, offered in conjunction with the HEC School of Management's
ISA program in France. HEC is the leading business school in France with 85
full-time faculty. This five-semester program-the only one of its
kind-allows students to study in two different social, political, and
economic environments. Although bilingual French-English, the MBA portion of
this program requires some knowledge of French prior to matriculation.
Typically, joint degree students will spend their first academic year
(September to July), at the Fletcher School and the second year at HEC. The
fifth semester will be completed at Fletcher.
Joint MALD-JD Program with Harvard Law School
The Fletcher School and the Harvard Law School offer a joint program that
enables students to pursue concurrent course work leading to the MALD and JD
degrees. The program is arranged so that all requirements for both degrees
are completed in four years.
