The following briefs are the results from the vibrant discussions that
took place during the conference. These briefs received input from a
wide-range of those deeply concerned with the political and developmental
future of the DRC. From representatives of Congolese civil society
organizations and NGOs, to policy makers and scholars from the US and
Europe, to UN officials working on the ground and in headquarters, these
briefs contain concise policy recommendations for those working on the
political and economic dimensions of the DRC conflict.
The briefs represent a minimal consensus among
participants about innovations
they considered important. They are not an exhaustive list of all that can
be done –and is being done—in the DRC. Issues on which there was no
consensus are not included. All the participants acted in their individual
capacity; these briefs thus do not constitute representations of the
official positions of the agencies and organizations by which all the
participants are employed.
