As a physician with a master’s degree in public health, I enrolled in GMAP to broaden my perspective. My understanding of international health issues now integrates political, social, legal and economic dimensions. This will significantly influence the quality of my work in the domain of international assistance, and has already impacted my career. I have just taken a new post as the UN inter-agency coordinator in avian, human and pandemic influenza for Asia and The Pacific. In this role, I will harmonize and look for synergies among the multiple actors and factors that will enable the Asia Pacific region to tackle the serious problem of avian influenza and the potential threat of a pandemic with its implication on economy, society, governance, rule of law, and security.
On a day to day basis, I'm applying and testing the knowledge and skills that I gained during the program. So far, my conclusions are positive: I am using what I learned to achieve my professional objectives... thanks to GMAP!
