Research Interests
My current top research priority is the completion of a textbook entitled Economic Development: Theory, Empirical Research and Policy Analysis, to be published by Wiley-Blackwell. This text offers a coherent analytical framework within which to define development objectives, understand the development process, identify potential barriers to development, design development interventions, and analyze the multidimensional impact of policies and programs. In collaboration with several colleagues from World Relief and the Association of Christian Economists, I am also designing impact evaluation tools for use with World Relief-sponsored microfinance programs. My academic research involves econometric analysis of household survey data aimed at answering such questions as “What forces play important roles in preventing families in poor countries form sending their children to primary school?” and “Why are long-lasting jobs so much less prevalent in developing countries than in developed countries, and what are the implications of this for labor market policy formulation?”
