Education:

Kostas A. Lavdas was born in Athens in 1964 and studied political science, political sociology, public policy and international relations at Panteion-Athens, the University of Manchester, L.S.E. and M.I.T.

Professional Activities:

Professor of Political Science and Director of the Centre for Political Research and Documentation (KEPET) at the University of Crete, where he was previously Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Personnel and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He has taught and researched at various European and American universities and research centers and at the National Centre for Public Administration in Athens. He has been a Referee for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of the U.K. and of a number of international journals, including Politics (Blackwell), Political Studies (Blackwell), Ethnic and Racial Studies (Routledge), Journal of European Integration (Routledge), European Journal of Political Theory (Routledge). He is a member of the Board of the Hellenic Center for European Studies (EKEM), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and of the Center for Educational Studies (KEE), Ministry of Education, Greece.

Research Interests:

His research is in the areas of European and comparative politics and public policy. He has published extensively in English, German and Greek on European politics, Greek politics and policy, comparative interest group politics and applied political theory.

Author of The Europeanization of Greece: Interest Politics and the Crises of Integration (London: Macmillan, 1997), Politics, Subsidies and Competition (with M. Mendrinou) (London: Edward Elgar, 1999), Formation and Development of the European Communities (in Greek) (Athens: Hellenic Open University, 2003), and Interests and Politics: Interest Organization and Patterns of Governance (in Greek) (Athens: Papazisis, 2004). Co-editor (with D. N. Chryssochoou) of European Unification and Political Theory: The Challenge of Republicanism (in Greek) (Athens: Sideris, 2004), as well as numerous book chapters and articles in international journals (including European Journal of Political Research, West European Politics, Journal of Political and Military Sociology, Politics, Journal of Higher Education Management and Policy).
