Executive Committee

Jerome Kagan, Child-rearing advisor

Professor Kagan is Daniel and Amy Starch Research Professor of Psychology, Emeritus, at Harvard University. He specializes in human development and has studied both cognitive and emotional development in varied cultures. His recent focus has been on temperamental variation in infants.

Fernando Reimers, Education advisor

Professor Reimers is the Ford Foundation Professor of International Education and Director of Global Education and of International Education Policy at Harvard University. His research and teaching focus on international development, development and humanitarian assistance, and the relationship between education policy, democratic citizenship and instructional improvement in developing countries. He is conducting large education research projects in Brazil and Mexico and is studying the development of Global Competency in public schools in the United States.

Peter Berger, Religion advisor

Professor Berger is University Professor Emeritus and Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs at Boston University. Among his numerous publications are Many Globalizations (co-editor with Samuel Huntington) and Developing Cultures: Case Studies (co-editor with Lawrence Harrison).

Reese Schonfeld, Media advisor

Mr. Schonfeld is a television journalist and co-founder and first president of CNN, and cofounder of the Food Network. He continues to write about the television business for magazines and newspapers and appears regularly on cable network television programs as a media expert. His essay, “The Global Battle for Cultural Domination”, appears in Developing Cultures, Essays on Cultural Change. Schonfeld is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an M.A. and law degree from Columbia University.

Richard Lamm, Leadership advisor

Mr. Lamm is University Professor and Co-Director of the Institute for Public Policy Studies at the University of Denver. Previously, he served three terms as Governor of Colorado. He is a lawyer and a C.P.A. by training.

Robert Kleinbaum, Private sector advisor

As a founder of GM's Decision Support Center, Dr. Kleinbaum (who holds a PhD in economics from the University of Michigan) helped establish one of the leading internal consulting companies in the world and has continued to play a key role in its growth and development. He has worked as a coach on projects, as an advisor to the management team, and has helped develop, teach, and coach the adoption of new methodologies.

Lawrence Harrison, Director

Lawrence E. Harrison is Senior Research Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer at the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He is the author of Underdevelopment is a State of Mind, Who Prospers?, and The Pan-American Dream, The Central Liberal Truth, and co-editor, with Samuel Huntington, of Culture Matters: How Values Shape Human Progress. Between 1965 and 1981, he directed USAID missions in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Harrison was associated with Harvard University's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs for eight years during the period 1981-2001. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Atlantic Monthly, Foreign Policy, and The National Interest, among other publications.

Miguel Basáñez, Deputy Director

Basáñez holds a PhD in political sociology from the London School of Economics. He is a member of the World Values Survey's Scientific Advisory Committee, and a former president of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR).  Basáñez has taught in Mexican universities since 1970 and has twenty years of experience in government followed by twenty years in the private sector.  He is co-author with Ronald Inglehart of the 1995 and the 2000 reports for the World Values Surveys (“Human Beliefs and Values”), with Takashi Inoguchi of the 2003 Asiabarometer Survey (“Values and Life Styles in Urban Asia”) and with Inglehart and Nevitte of "The North American Trajectory: Cultural, Economic, and Political Ties Among the United States, Canada, and Mexico."

Kate Taylor, Program Officer

A 2007 MALD graduate of the Fletcher School, Taylor has served as a fund development and PR consultant to a variety of nonprofit organizations.  She has also worked with a social marketing organization in India, and has a particular interest in gender issues.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.

Lupita Ervin, Administrative Officer

Ervin handles CCI’s administrative matters, including billing, ordering, and facilities.  She has been a member of the Fletcher School staff for twelve years.
