Neil Allen’s involvement in emerging markets began before the term had even been coined. The depth of his experience means that he has a wide repertoire of war stories. He can talk about Turkish notes or Chilean debt or the Russian bond markets at the drop of a hat. When Allen started working with emerging markets, “major investment banks wouldn't touch them,” he says. “They wouldn't have one penny of exposure. Now they have billions invested and major asset management activities.” Since then, he has built a career out of identifying opportunities in complex international emerging markets.
The foundation for this career was his Fletcher education. “I think the world is only now catching up with Fletcher,” Allen says. “Fletcher business graduates speak multiple languages. Not just foreign languages but the languages of law, diplomacy, business, and economics. These are the people that have the greatest opportunities in business today.”
