The Fletcher School

A Graduate School of International Affairs

2008-09 Student Profiles

Shailesh Chitnis, MIB 2010, India

Why I chose Fletcher: “I am interested in learning more about innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of emerging markets. While I had the engineering background, I needed some exposure to the management issues related to starting and running such enterprises. However, I wasn’t very excited with traditional MBA courses because they were heavily focused on the business aspect. In my opinion, to be effective in emerging markets, one needs to have a comprehensive knowledge about development and international issues in addition to business skills. That is where I think Fletcher offers a unique opportunity. Here I can develop the traditional business skills and at the same time broaden my understanding of other topics which could directly or indirectly impact a business.”

On working with Fletcher alumni: “This semester, in addition to my regular ‘business’ courses, I am taking a course in Islamic civilization, a subject in which I have great personal interest. From a business perspective, understanding the social and cultural norms of societies in which I would like to engage in, has been valuable.”
