Paul Nadeau

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF


Paul Nadeau focuses on U.S. Foreign Policy, Transatlantic Relations, and Congress. Before coming to Fletcher, he worked for Senator Olympia Snowe as part of her foreign affairs and trade staff. His experience also includes work with Radoslaw Sikorski — now foreign minister of Poland — at the New Atlantic Initiative, Dr. Simon Serfaty at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and at the Miklós Zrínyi National Defense University in Budapest, Hungary. Paul holds a B.A. in International Relations from the George Washington University and a certificate in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Jennifer Brookland

MANAGING EDITOR

Jennifer is concentrating in human security and humanitarian assistance. She has a specific interest in the role the media can play in conflict transformation. Prior to Fletcher, she earned a master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in International Politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She has also served as a military officer, conducting felony-level criminal investigations and deploying to the Horn of Africa as part of a multinational task force. She spent the summer reporting and editing for the humanitarian news and analysis agency of the United Nations in Nairobi.

Meghan Healy Luecke

MANAGING EDITOR for the forum online

Meghan is a second-year student of international security and law. She focuses on Chinese foreign relations and nuclear nonproliferation policy. She is currently a research assistant in China-US relations at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. As a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow, Meghan will enter the Foreign Service in 2012. Prior to joining Fletcher, she lived in rural Sichuan, China, where she worked at a microfinance NGO and taught high school English. She received her bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Andrew Schwartz

Andrew focuses on International Political Campaign Management. Prior to Fletcher, he served as the Product Manager and Customer Research guru for consumer health and wellness start-up Zeo, Inc. Working in Field outside of Greensboro, NC for the Obama campaign in 2008 provided a taste of campaign life that proved addictive, and Andrew has since worked for the campaigns of Lincoln Chafee (Governor of RI) and Bob Massie (US Senate candidate from MA, since withdrawn). He holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Brown University.

Kathryn Nassberg

business director

Kathryn is a second-year Master of International Business with a focus on marketing and international political economy. Prior to Fletcher, she worked as assistant to the chief economist for East Capital, an asset management firm in Stockholm and as an editor and translator in Moscow for RosBusinessConsulting, Russia’s largest financial news company. She holds an MA in modern languages from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and is fluent in French, German, Italian, Russian and Swedish.

Shayne Arcilla

ASSOCIATE BUSINESS DIRECTOR

Shayne Arcilla focuses on International Finance & Banking and Development Economics. Before coming to Fletcher, she worked in the commercial real estate investment industry for four years as an investment and research analyst. Shayne holds a B.S. in Finance from the Pennsylvania State University.

Amelia Hight

SENIOR EDITOR

Amelia focuses on Conflict Resolution and Security Studies and is particularly interested in how communities respond to violence. Before coming to Fletcher, Amelia worked at the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum, a project of the Social Science Research Council. She has also served as the Thailand refugee legal aid program associate at Asylum Access. A recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, she completed a year of independent research on the politics behind genocide memorials and museums in Cambodia, Rwanda, and Central Europe. She graduated from Scripps College with a degree in Politics and International Relations.

Catesby Holmes

SENIOR EDITOR

Formerly an assistant editor at Travel + Leisure, Catesby now studies Comparative Politics and International Urban Development, with a focus on socially just policy for Latin America’s exploding metropolises. She is chief reporter for Viva Colombia Media, which publishes travel guides to Colombian cities, and continues to write freelance for Travel + Leisure, The Huffington Post, and other media outlets. She received her B.A. from Wesleyan University in 2005.

Fatima Jafri

SENIOR EDITOR

Fatima is pursuing joint degrees at The Fletcher School and Northeastern School of Law, and focuses on international law, international trade, human rights, and politics and development in the Middle East and South Asia. Previously, she has spent time working and researching at The Southern District Court of New York, The Council for Arab and British Understanding, The Dubai School of Government, and The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. She has published articles in Common Ground News and Women Living Under Muslim Law. She received her B.A. from Trinity College in 2008 in International Studies and Women Studies, culminating in an undergraduate thesis entitled “The Trinity of Misogyny: Mullahs, Money and Military in Pakistan.”

Stephanie Landers

SENIOR EDITOR

Stephanie is focusing on Conflict, Development, and Democracy and is particularly interested in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Prior to Fletcher, she worked in project management at Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI), an international development contractor. Her projects at DAI centered on both economic growth and stabilization, specifically targeting agribusiness, market access, civil-society strengthening, and post-conflict reconstruction. She also worked for Management Sciences for Health, a public health organization aiming to improve health systems around the world. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wellesley College

Prashanth Parameswaran

SENIOR EDITOR

Prashanth focuses on International Business Relations and Energy and Environmental Policy at the Fletcher School. He was previously a research assistant at the Project 2049 Institute, a Washington DC-based think tank focusing on future-looking Asian security issues. He has also had stints at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and Amnesty International. His writings have been published in various Asian newspapers and online publications, including World Politics Review, The Straits Times, The China Post, The Nation, Irrawaddy News Magazine, and Asia Sentinel. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia in 2009 with a B.A. in Political Science and Peace and Conflict Studies.

Artin Afkhani

STAFF EDITOR

Artin is focusing on International Security Studies and Political Systems with a passion for the Middle East. He simultaneously covers Iran for The New York Times and serves as Iran Researcher for Princeton University. He has served as a Foreign Affairs intern for US Senator Dianne Feinstein from California. His research interests include US grand strategy, nuclear nonproliferation, and covert warfare, a topic about which he has written in The New York Times. Artin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Middle East Studies with High Honors from UC Berkeley.

Natalie Chang

STAFF EDITOR

Natalie is a first-year MALD student focusing on Humanitarian Studies and International Security Studies. Before coming to Fletcher, she was a Research Associate for the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program at the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, DC, facilitating research and networking efforts for democracy activists from seven countries. She has also conducted research on counterinsurgency, humanitarian response, and health provision in Northwest Pakistan for the Transnational Crisis Project. Natalie received her bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and International Security Studies from Stanford University.

Sarah E. Clark

STAFF EDITOR

Sarah is completing a dual MS/MALD degree from the Fletcher School and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Her interests lie in international trade, food and agriculture policy, and international agribusiness. Most recently she worked for the World Trade Organization’s Agriculture Division in Geneva, as well as the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy in Minneapolis on projects related to international trade policy, food safety, and consumer health. Before returning to graduate school she worked for a public health policy research and evaluation firm in Oakland, CA. She received her bachelor’s degree in public health from UC Berkeley.

Katharine Davis

STAFF EDITOR

Katharine is interested in research, monitoring, and evaluation in humanitarian work, with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa.  Prior to Fletcher, she spent three years working for a humanitarian NGO in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, most recently on monitoring and evaluation and capacity-building in a governance program.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.

Lisa de Bode

STAFF EDITOR

Lisa De Bode is focusing on Middle Eastern and Islamic Civilizations Studies. Prior to Fletcher, she worked as a journalist for Belgium’s national newspapers specializing in multiculturalism and women’s rights in the Arab world. Her research in the region resulted in the publication of her first book The Silent Revolution, a work of narrative nonfiction discussing the impact of 9/11 on women’s rights in Saudi Arabia. Previously, she worked as a marketer at Procter & Gamble in Brussels, where she designed media campaigns in partnership with local non-profits encouraging women’s empowerment. Lisa graduated with a BA and MA in economics and engineering from the University of Leuven.

Alexander Ely

STAFF EDITOR

Alex Ely is a first-year MALD student focusing on International Negotiation & Conflict Resolution and International Security Studies. He also works as a graduate student assistant at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Prior to Fletcher, Alex spent two years in New York working at an international communications consulting firm, specializing in political and media strategy for foreign governments and nonprofits. He spent two months in Doha, Qatar working as an advisor to the successful Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Bid. Alex graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2009 with a BA in Government, with Honors. Originally from Amherst, MA, he is lifelong Boston sports fan, even after monumental late season collapses.

Alexander Kaz

Alexander Kaz focuses on International Business Relations and International Security Studies. Prior to Fletcher, he spent a significant period of time in Beijing, China; first as the mathematics department head at Tsinghua International School and then as a co-founder of a pilot leadership development program. At Fletcher, he is interested in further exploring business and security issues in China, Russia, and the Koreas. Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics from Columbia University..

Mari Kenton Wright

STAFF EDITOR

Mari Kenton Wright is a staff editor of the Forum and a first-year MALD candidate. At Fletcher, Mari is studying global health development and human security. Prior to her graduate work, Mari worked at the Enough Project at the Center for American Progress, which develops policy and advocacy tools to end genocide and crimes against humanity in Africa. She also served as the Sudan Program Officer for the Africa Education & Leadership Initiative (Africa ELI) in South Sudan, helping to develop secondary education and health programs for young women.  Mari currently serves on the board of directors of Africa ELI. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Bates College.

Pheobe Randel

Phoebe Randel is a first year candidate for a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy with a focus on International Security Studies and International Negotiation & Conflict Resolution. Before attending Fletcher, Phoebe worked for Senator Richard Blumenthal on his policies related to national security, foreign affairs, and veterans’ issues. Phoebe completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in Political Science and a certificate in Women’s Studies. She also studied Argentine literature, politics, and history for a semester at the University of Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Leila Seradj

Prior to coming to the Fletcher School, Leila worked for the Global Assets Project at the New America Foundation, focusing on issues related to savings and asset-building in microfinance. She also spent a year working for a community development project in St. Lucia. Leila received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Emily Simon

STAFF EDITOR

Emily is a first-year MALD at Fletcher with significant experience in media and communications. Most recently, she worked for America Abroad Media (AAM), a non-profit organization in Washington, DC that produces radio and TV programming on international affairs.  Prior to AAM, she spent two years in Harvard’s Communications Office and served as a contributing writer for the Harvard Gazette.  Emily is also a freelance copywriter for ETR Tours, a Swiss-based travel company that provides educational programming for international schools. Emily received her B.A. in History and Literature from Harvard College.  At Fletcher, she is studying US foreign policy and international communication.

Nadja Skaljic

STAFF EDITOR

Nadja is lawyer by academic training (University of Sarajevo) with a diverse scope of interests—including international affairs, economics and development. In her studies at Fletcher, Nadja is focusing on Public International Law and Comparative politics. Her professional experiences include working in the judiciary, international non-profit organizations and local businesses in Bosnia. In 2006/2007, she was a George Soros Foundation fellow, studying Law and Political science at the University of Washington. Most recently, Nadja worked for the Office of the Prosecutor at the UN war crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on the case against Radovan Karadžić. She is a contributing writer for the Bosnian daily newspaper Dnevni avaz.

Timothy Whitteaker

Tim is studying International Security Studies and U.S. Foreign Policy. Before coming to Fletcher, he spent three years as a research associate for the Manufacturers Alliance, a trade association and think tank in Washington, DC that focuses on international business operations. Tim holds a B.A. in International Relations from the College of William and Mary.

Lulu Cheng

Lulu Cheng concentrates on technology, media, and economic development. She previously worked for J.P. Morgan Asset Management in New York and has a background in economic policy and information technology. Lulu graduated from Yale University in 2008 with a B.A. in Political Science.

Andy Gupta

At Fletcher, Andy is studying International Security Studies and Conflict Resolution with a specific interest in U.S. foreign policy and the geopolitics of South Asia. Before Fletcher, Andy worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Water Program as well as its India Initiative on Climate Change and Energy. He is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he studied political science and international affairs.

Summer Marion

Summer focuses on International Security Studies and Conflict Resolution. She came to Fletcher from the Washington, D.C.-based Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, where she served in an editorial capacity to an array of international reporting projects run by outlets including The Washington Post, Foreign Policy and The New Republic. Her work in journalism concentrates on security-related issues; currently, her research interests include the role of the press in security decision-making processes and non-state actors in armed and unarmed conflict. Originally from Durham, NC, she earned her B.A. in International Relations with a concentration in Economics from the College of William & Mary in 2008.

Jenny Shin

WEB EDITOR

Jenny focuses on Pacific Asia and International Security, with a special interest in U.S.-ROK relations and regional security on the Korean peninsula. Before her arrival at Fletcher, she worked for the Center for American Progress and the Center for Defense Information where she provided research assistance on Pakistan, Afghanistan, and missile defense-related issues. Her most recent internship has been with the Stimson Center where she focused on Japan’s nuclear security consciousness and US-Japan relations. Jenny holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego.

Amanda Moodie

BOOK REVIEW EDITOR

Amanda focuses on International Security Studies and Conflict Resolution. Before coming to Fletcher, she was a program analyst at CSC with the International Counterproliferation Program, which provides law-enforcement and border-security training to officials in Central and Eastern European countries to prevent illicit trafficking of WMD-related materials. She has also worked for the Center for Nonproliferation Studies and for the U.S. office of the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Amanda holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English from Duke University.

Robert Truglia

BUSINESS ASSOCIATE

Robert is a member of the class of 2012 at Tufts University, where he studies International Relations and Economics. He has interned at Harvard Business Publishing, where he conducted market research in business education. Robert is currently an active member at Hemispheres, the Tufts undergraduate journal of international affairs.
