Policy

The WPF’s policy engagement is integrated with its research, in two senses. First, our policy engagement provides materials for innovative research. Second, our policy engagement in turn derives from the research directions of the WPF program.  Drawing on the WPF’s unique access to political leaders and institutions, the programs aim to bring the qualities of innovation and creativity to its support of political processes for peace. Our focus is on the world’s most difficult places, especially in Africa, but also in Asia and Latin America

Our current policy projects include:

African Union High-Level Implementation Panel for Sudan: This high-level panel is headed by three former African Presidents, Thabo Mbeki (South Africa), Abdulsalami Abubaker (Nigeria) and Pierre Buyoya (Burundi) and is charged to address issues related to peace and democratization in Sudan and South Sudan. Alex de Waal is Senior Adviser to the AUHIP.

African Union Human Rights Memorial: WPF is a project partner in efforts to create a permanent human rights memorial at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
